Alumni
Founded on September 7, 1994, at the Texas Union, Texas Blazers emerged as a student-led organization dedicated to hands-on service, leadership, and academic excellence. Its founders sought to create a group that reflected the diverse UT Austin student body while upholding high standards and rejecting hazing.
Early on, Texas Blazers partnered with Johnston High School (now Eastside Memorial High School) to provide mentorship and academic support, a commitment that continues today through tutoring, empowerment initiatives, and college preparation assistance.
In its first year, Texas Blazers was recognized as UT’s “Most Outstanding Service Organization” at the Swing-Out Awards. It later earned “Most Outstanding Organization” honors in 2003 and 2014. In 2007, the organization established the Texas Blazers Endowed Scholarship, providing annual financial support to an Eastside Memorial graduate pursuing higher education.
Over the years, Texas Blazers has remained a pillar of service and leadership, strengthening its impact on both the university and Austin communities.
